Giving Back to God -Sacrifice

This weekend, our parish’s Grow Where You Are Planted campaign focuses on giving back to God - with sacrifice. God is the Giver of all gifts. We are called not only to give back to God and others, but we are at times called to make a sacrifice. What does it mean to make a sacrifice? It means we are called to give up something in our lives so that we can stretch, reach, go further, and give more. Please consider a campaign gift that is not only generous, but that is also a sacrifice for you or your family. Please continue to pray the campaign prayer each day, and also pray, “Lord what do You want to do – through me – for my parish? Help me be Your instrument, that Your kingdom come, that Your will be done."

Dear Parishioners,

Over the last few weekends, we have reflected on our call to foster the salvation of souls and be good stewards as Catholics by 1) acknowledging God’s gifts, 2) being grateful, and 3) giving back to God. This weekend, we want to focus on Giving Back to God --- with Sacrifice!

When we think of giving back with sacrifice, we can think of sacrifice in family life. Some examples might be sacrificing vacations for children’s activities, sacrificing financial security so children can complete college, or sacrificing so that a child can purchase a needed car. Giving is situational. Sacrifice involves planning, changing plans, and making a greater commitment to another person and their needs.

Our Lord made this kind of sacrifice for us, too, sacrificing His life on the cross for us. Catholics, following the example of Our Lord Jesus Christ, have sacrificed for 2,000 years. Our parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents sacrificed to build beautiful churches and schools throughout the country. Catholic life has always been about giving back and sacrificing.

Soon you will receive your Grow Where You Are Planted pledge packets in the mail. We will begin giving back to God on Sunday February 9 & 16. All of us will be asked to prayerfully consider an initial gift and a 3-year pledge for our church exterior restoration and a new Academy school building.

This whole process is a process of prayer. Please review the Go Higher, Go Further page as you consider your gift. And perhaps consider a stretch gift and a sacrifice as you make your gift to God. This is a one-time opportunity to imitate the sacrifice of Our Lord, as well as the sacrifices of our ancestors in the faith!
